Search Washoe County Warrants

Warrant records in Washoe County are court orders that direct law enforcement to act, most often to arrest a person, to bring a person before a judge, or to search a place. A Washoe County warrant search starts with the issuing court, not with a single county-wide list. The Second Judicial District Court, the justice courts in Reno and Sparks, and the municipal courts each issue warrants in their own cases. There is no public county-wide warrant database for Washoe County warrant records. The right path is to identify the case, identify the court, and call that court before paying or appearing. Active warrants subject a person to arrest at any hour.

Why Washoe County Has No Single Warrant List

Washoe County does not post a single public warrant list. The county has multiple courts, and each court keeps its own case data and its own warrant entries. The Second Judicial District Court issues felony, family, and probate warrants. Reno Justice Court and Sparks Justice Court issue misdemeanor, traffic, eviction, and small-claims warrants for their dockets. Reno Municipal Court and Sparks Municipal Court handle their own city ordinance cases. Each court has its own clerk, its own phone line, and its own pay window.

This split matters because a Washoe County warrant search through one court does not reveal warrants from the others. A person looking up a warrant should check the court named on the citation, the bond paperwork, or the prior court notice. If you cannot identify the court, call the court that is most likely from the city where the contact happened. The court can confirm a warrant by case number or by name.

Note: Search warrants used in active investigations may be sealed, which means the warrant itself is not in the public record until the investigation closes or the seal is lifted.

Types of Washoe County Warrant Records

Warrant records fall into a small set of types. Each type starts from a different court action. The same person can have more than one warrant across more than one court. A bench warrant in district court for a missed hearing does not clear a traffic FTA warrant in justice court. Each must be resolved at its own court.

  • Bench warrant: a judge issues this, often after a failure to appear or a probation violation.
  • Arrest warrant: issued on probable cause to arrest a named person.
  • Search warrant: authorizes a search of a place or a seizure of property; may be sealed.
  • Failure-to-appear traffic warrant: issued by a justice or municipal court after a missed traffic date.
  • Probation-revocation warrant: issued during criminal supervision when a term is violated.

Bench warrants are the most common in the public record. A missed court date in a misdemeanor traffic case, a missed payment on a fine plan, or a missed status check in a specialty court can each trigger a bench warrant. The portal at caseinfo.washoecourts.com shows bench warrant result codes on cases that move through the Second Judicial District Court.

Warrant-Related Fields in Washoe County Court Portals

Two portals are useful for a Washoe County warrant search. The District Court Calendar Search lists Search Warrant as a case type and shows bench warrant result codes on individual case events. The Justice Court payment search shows a Pending Warrant or Warrant Issued status when a citation has an open warrant. The table below covers the fields and filters that touch warrant data.

How to Resolve a Washoe County Warrant

Each court has its own process. Do not rely on a third-party site to clear a warrant. The court that issued the warrant is the only court that can recall it. The steps below cover the common path for traffic and misdemeanor warrants. Felony bench warrants in the district court usually require counsel; the Washoe County Public Defender may be appointed at arraignment if you qualify.

  1. Identify the court that issued the warrant. Check the citation, the bond paperwork, or the last court notice.
  2. Call that court directly using a number from the court's own website. Do not use a number from a text or a voicemail you did not request.
  3. For Reno Justice Court citations, call the Citation Division at 775-325-6503 and ask about the Warrant Resolution Program.
  4. For Sparks Justice Court citations, call the Citation Division at 775-353-7602. A pending Failure to Appear warrant requires a $35 late fee to obtain a new appearance date.
  5. If the warrant is active in Sparks Justice Court, appear at court during business hours and pay the balance owed in full. Phone payments are not accepted for active warrant cases.
  6. If the warrant is felony-level or district-level, consider counsel. The Public Defender's front desk is at 775-337-4800; ask the court for an appointment.
  7. Bring identification and any prior paperwork to the court window when you appear.

For Reno Municipal Court or Sparks Municipal Court warrants, the citation or court notice will direct you to the city court line. Do not assume a justice court warrant covers a municipal warrant or the other way around. They are separate courts.

Reno Justice Court Warrant Resolution Program

The Reno Justice Court Warrant Resolution Program is the main path for people with an active justice-court warrant in Reno. The program is run by the Citation Division at 775-325-6503. Staff can review the case, set a new court date in some cases, and explain what payment, appearance, or community service is needed to clear the warrant. The court accepts cash, credit card, money order, cashier's check, or traveler's check at the counter.

If the person cannot pay the fine in full, Reno Justice Court may allow community service at $15 per hour. An extension to pay can also be requested in person at the counter. The first extension fee is $10. The second and any later extension fee is $25. Sparks Justice Court does not grant extensions by phone; payment plans must be arranged at the court counter. Sparks lists options of community service at $10 per hour, an extension to pay, or an ability-to-pay review with forms at the court counter.

Note: Phone payments are not accepted for active warrant cases at either justice court. Active warrants must be resolved by appearance, by counsel, or through the Warrant Resolution Program.

What a Washoe County Warrant Record Shows

A warrant record in the public Washoe County court portal shows only as much as the court chose to publish. Most bench warrant entries appear as a result code on a single case event. They are not a standalone search row. A user must open the case to see the warrant detail. The citation payment search adds a status flag at the case level. Neither view gives a full warrant text.

  • Case number and court.
  • Event date when the warrant was issued.
  • Result code such as Bench Warrant Issued or Pending Warrant.
  • Bail amount, when one is set.
  • Forfeit flag, when bail is forfeited.
  • Charge or violation in the underlying case.

The court does not publish the address of the warrant subject, the home phone, or the social security number. Personal identifiers and minor-related information are not in the public warrant record. The Public Records Act at NRS Chapter 239 sets the framework, and court rules under Nevada Supreme Court sealing and redaction rules further define what is in or out of the public docket.
